Wheels within Wheels
In Amsterdam, where cycling is the primary mode of transportation, I often think that the Chinese proverb “the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step” could be rephrased as “a thousand miles begins with a bike.” For my project, I observed the lives of over 20 people in the Netherlands, exploring their interactions with space and everyday objects through travel and documentation using the Wheel—a performative device I created for the project. By capturing an objective view from the rolling Wheel, I transform daily movement into intriguing visuals that refresh our understanding of everyday life.
This visual investigation seeks to unpack the complex relationship between mobility, living, and space through what I call an “alien angle.”
