Perfet Temptation

In 2016, following Desarming from Palestine, I had the opportunity to visit Palestine. A year later, I traveled to Cuba with my peers from the Sandberg Institute. While I personally experience an abundance of food, my visits to these two places revealed how each faces distinct forms of resource control and the influence of colonial power. Drawing from these personal experiences, I embarked on a visual investigation into the complexities of food scarcity in a world that, in theory, holds enough resources to sustain all.

The resulting video installation creates an immersive environment, projected onto a floor covered in flour, inviting viewers to engage with the subject matter. Limited seating, made from flour bags, reinforces the theme of scarcity. This arrangement fosters a connection between the audience and a narrative that explores the tension between desire and the unattainable.

In this context, the words of Mahatma Gandhi resonate: “To those who must endure the absence of two meals a day, bread becomes the only manifestation of God.” When survival is at stake, hunger exposes the stark reality of scarcity.
